About

Asuka was born in Los Angeles, raised in Japan, educated in Boston, and currently lives and works in Brooklyn. Guided by curiosity and a love of learning, she makes books, zines, prints, and textile works that explore how ideas, images, and ways of making evolve as they are shared, adapted, and reinterpreted over time. Drawing inspiration from public-domain publications, historical documents, and everyday observations, she uses bookmaking, printmaking, and textile design to explore how knowledge is embodied, shared, and transformed through making.

She received a BFA in Printmaking from California State University, Long Beach, and an MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University. Her work is held in numerous public collections, including the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, Bernard Zine Library, Maryland Institute College of Art, Rhode Island School of Design, and San Francisco Public Library. She has taught printmaking and bookmaking at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University, San Francisco Art Institute, Parsons School of Design, Penland School of Craft, and Montclair State University. She is currently expanding her textile practice through the Textile/Surface Design AAS program at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.
